The Natural Therapies Consultation
You will find a natural therapies consultation quite different
from visiting your family doctor. The therapist will spend more
time getting to know you as a unique individual and will prescribe
suitable remedies based on these observations.
Let us look at a typical consultation with a homeopath. Homeopathy
is a form of treatment that falls under the umbrella of Naturopathy,
however it is a unique system of medicine in its own right, and
utilises principles and medicines that may not be found in other
forms of naturopathy.
The First Homeopathic Consultation
The first homeopathic consultation usually takes around one and
a half hours. The length of this consultation is necessary because
homeopathy is the selection and recommendation of a remedy to match
your constitution. To do this all symptoms in a person must be taken
into account because we are complex and unique beings.
It is therefore not sufficient to tell the practitioner, "I
have migraine headaches". The headache is not the "disease",
rather, it is but one of several symptoms of the real disease. The
homeopath also needs to know what other symptoms you experience
however small or insignificant you may think they are in comparison
to your main complaint. Therefore, your personality, your life history,
your inheritance, your relationships, the issues in your life, etc.,
can all yield important information to the homeopath in his search
for the appropriate remedy for you as an individual person. Three
or more people may present with migraine headaches and depending
upon the set of symptoms each experiences, they may all require
a different remedy.
Following Up
Subsequent consultations will last 30 to 40 minutes. Consultations
are totally confidential.
You will be asked about your past and present health,
life experiences, patterns of health in your family and your personal
characteristics. This will include looking at the physical, mental
and emotional characteristics which make up you as a unique individual.
You may be given a single dose, or repeated doses
of a homeopathic remedy. Where illness has been developed over a
long period of time, several treatments may be necessary over a
period of months. Whereas in acute (short term) conditions, results
may be gained very quickly. Recovery takes place in different ways
depending on the nature and history of your condition. Generally
you will notice an increase in energy and wellbeing during your
recovery.
